My Favorite Free iPhone Applications

I do not know where to start.  There are so many free iPhone applications, the list almost seems endless.

When I first got my iPhone, I got so carried away, I exceeded the 11 page viewable limit almost immediately. See my previous post Too Many iPhone Apps.  Fortunately, with the latest version of operating system (iOS4), you are now able to group your applications into folders.

Here is my starter list.  I broke it into two parts, 1) the most obvious must haves (these are in addition to the few that come with the iPhone) and 2) the additional nice to haves.  This list is in no particular order.  Please keep your eyes open for my upcoming Paid Applications list.

Obvious/Must Haves:

  • Shazm – Identifies songs, artists, and albums and gives direct link to download, just by sampling a few seconds of the song.
  • Facebook – A simple, convenient interface to the popular Facebook website.  Let’s you posts updates and view others’.
  • Weather – A simple clear interface to view the current weather and upcoming 5-day forecast for any selected cities.

Additional/Nice To Haves:

  • RepairPal – Helps you find a mechanic and gives you an estimate of repair costs for your car, so you know what to expect in advance and avoid being ripped-off.
  • Foursquare – A simple social networking tool to let people know where you are, how often you frequent a place, and who else is at the place with you.
  • GeoCaching (Lite) – A fun scavenger hunting game, where you try to find a little hidden treasure wherever you are.
  • KGOAM – My favorite talk radio station podcasts and live radio.
  • Emoji icons – Enables a whole slew of fun emoticons, such as the popular smiley face :-) and many unique ones, such as your favorite sport Football. For more details, see Liven Your Messages With Emoticons. (Note: These only reliably work with other iPhones)
  • Translator – Translate a word or phrase from any language to any other language.
  • TV.com – Watch full clips and full episodes of your favorite TV shows.
  • Carbonite – A simple, quick interface to access any of your online backed-up files with Carbonite.
  • Personal Assistant – A simple tool from PageOnce that tracks all your financial accounts, airline flights and mileage, much more.
  • Evernote – Let’s you create, view, and edit files on your iPhone, laptop computer, desktop computer, or from any web browser when traveling.
  • iMDB – The complete entertainment database gives you immediate access to information about your favorite celebrities, movies, and TV shows.
  • Zillow – Check the vital statistics of any house, including current value, last sale price, size, and much more.
  • iDisk – Gives you complete access to your MobileMe account.

I will be adding to this list over time.  Please let me know your favorite applications.

Cheers,
Richard Lazovick
